Belly Joy workshops/performance coming Saturday

Belly Joy: A Celebration of Movement & Dance, is coming to the Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash Street, Bonners Ferry, on Saturday, June 25, with 90-minute workshops at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and a Hafla evening performance at 7 p.m., all presented by Ashley Lopez and Cindy Moon Bear.

The morning workshop, FCBD Style: Back to Basics and Beyond! presented by Cindy, will start with the FCBD foundational moves and formations and then explore and play with the ins and outs of a vibrant, supportive chorus. If time and skills allow, participants will delve into various other formation possibilities.

*If you have a specific small topic, move, or skill, etc. you would like addressed, include it in your registration form and I will try to cover if time allows,” Cindy said.

Ashley, an internationally touring artist and instructor, will conduct the afternoon workshop, Strong & Flexible Dance Technique! Designed for all levels of dancers, this workshop is suitable for participants of all abilities and backgrounds.

Ashley has performed and taught in over 25 countries worldwide and she holds a bachelor of music in vocal performance/opera and is an “8 Elements” Datura style dance teacher, a registered yoga teacher, and a certified Pilates, cycling and fitness instructor.

An ever-evolving artist, she has trained extensively as a musician, dancer and contortionist. As an instructor, she enjoys teaching virtually any fitness format but currently is expanding her training in nutrition, lifestyle design, mindfulness and emotional intelligence techniques in order to expand her skills as a fitness, wellness and lifestyle coach.

Participants in her workshop will be taken through a series of conditioning and dance technique drills that help them understand the muscular balance that will help develop strength, stability, improved balance and posture, better mobility and flexibility for strong, powerful dance technique and Ashley will guide participants through the anatomical logic behind each exercise and drill, so along the way dancers will get to learn about how the body works and how to stay injury free.

Enjoy some fun dance combos to fabulous music at the end of class to put it all together.

Tickets are $10 for the Hafla show, and workshops are $40 each, or $75 for all three, available online at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door; tickets for the evening performance are also available at Bonners Books or Mountain Mike’s; doors and the Pearl Café open at 6 p.m.
